The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission has awarded two university students a total of EUR 1,000 under its annual student awards initiative for the academic year 2025-2026. The prizes recognize the best studies in Finance and Securities Markets and were awarded to Xenia Efthymiou of the Cyprus University of Technology and Ioannis Moraitis of the University of Nicosia, with each recipient receiving EUR 500. Efthymiou was recognized for her doctoral dissertation, “Bail-In a Generation: BRRD’s Legacy Unveiled – The Case of Cyprus,” while Moraitis was awarded for his postgraduate study, “A Comparative Analysis of AI-Themed ETFs vs. Actively Managed Mutual Funds: Performance, Risk, and Cost.” The awards are presented annually in memory of CySEC’s first chairman, Frixos Sorokos. Efthymiou’s award was presented by CySEC Vice-Chairman Panikkos Vakkou during the Cyprus University of Technology graduation ceremony on 16 June, while Moraitis’ award was received on his behalf by Petros Lois of the University of Nicosia.
