The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan held a working meeting with Ko Sakamoto, the newly appointed Resident Representative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Tajikistan, focusing on continued cooperation and ADB support through projects and technical and advisory assistance for the banking system. The discussion covered the macroeconomic situation, with banking-system macro indicators assessed as stable despite uncertainty in the regional economy. The parties exchanged views on the impact of external factors, attracting additional investment, continuing economic reforms, developing the financial market, and advancing digitisation, including in payments systems and insurance. The central bank also outlined recent structural reforms aimed at strengthening the monetary policy framework, improving liquidity and interest-rate indicators, strengthening public confidence in the banking system, and supporting a gradual move toward inflation targeting. ADB’s resident representative expressed readiness to expand bilateral cooperation and develop new areas of engagement with Tajikistan’s banking sector.
