The Vietnam State Securities Commission published a readout of the 39th ASEAN Exchanges CEOs Meeting in Da Nang, where regional exchange leaders discussed capital market connectivity, sustainable development and growth initiatives. The main concrete outcome was the signing of the ASEAN-ISE ESG memorandum, under which Vietnam Stock Exchange officially joined the regional exchange initiative aimed at standardizing, connecting and increasing the transparency of ESG data across ASEAN. In remarks at the conference, Chair Vu Thi Chan Phuong called for closer cooperation among regulators and exchanges to strengthen market links, create cross-border investment opportunities, advance cross-listing initiatives and develop regional investment products to support capital flows within ASEAN. She also said the meeting came at a notable point for Vietnam's capital market following FTSE Russell's upgrade of Vietnam from frontier market to secondary emerging market, which she linked to deeper integration with regional and global financial markets. Conference sessions also covered sustainable capital market development and market connectivity, including presentations from Bursa Malaysia on a sustainable ASEAN capital market initiative and from the Stock Exchange of Thailand on cooperation through depository receipt listings. Following VNX's entry into ASEAN-ISE ESG, Vietnam Stock Exchange said it will work with other members on standardizing ESG data infrastructure, aligning core ESG indicators, testing tools to help listed companies calculate carbon emissions and strengthening links between companies with strong ESG performance and green credit and international financing sources.
