The Austrian National Bank announced that the Verein für Socialpolitik has awarded economist Benjamin Born the 2026 Carl Menger Prize for his research in modern macroeconomics and the empirical analysis of monetary, fiscal and economic policy. The EUR 20,000 prize is jointly endowed by the Austrian National Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank and Swiss National Bank and is awarded every two years for innovative international research in monetary macroeconomics, monetary policy and currency policy. Born is professor of macroeconomics at the University of Bonn and research director at the ifo Institute. His work covers business cycles and monetary and fiscal policy, and he advises institutions including the European Central Bank and European Commission. The prize is due to be presented at the Verein für Socialpolitik annual conference in Innsbruck.
