National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu met Maarten Verwey, director-general of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs, to review Moldova’s progress toward European Union integration. Discussions focused on central bank reforms, alignment of financial regulation with the EU acquis and legislative changes concerning central bank independence that entered into force in 2026. The officials also addressed the European Banking Authority’s ongoing assessment of Moldova’s banking prudential framework. They discussed the EU-supported EUR 1.9 billion Growth Plan for Moldova for 2025-2027, including the central bank’s contribution to reforms aimed at improving access to finance and developing capital market infrastructure.
