The State Bank of Vietnam reported that Governor Nguyen Thi Hong joined General Secretary To Lam’s high-level delegation to Washington, D.C. for 18–20 February 2026, covering multilateral and bilateral engagements including the opening meeting of the Peace Council on Gaza. During a meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Vietnam’s side noted that the SBV and the US Treasury have worked closely and reached agreement on a Joint Declaration on Currency, with the joint statement to be announced by the two agencies in the near future. The programme also included a White House meeting between To Lam and US President Donald Trump, where the leaders reviewed cooperation under the Vietnam–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and discussed economic and trade issues. President Trump said he would direct relevant agencies to remove Vietnam from the strategic export control list (D1–D3) and welcomed Vietnam’s efforts to balance the trade relationship and newly signed high-value contracts; the delegation also witnessed the signing and awarding of cooperation contracts and agreements across areas including science and technology, digital transformation, aviation and healthcare. The next stated step is the forthcoming publication of the SBV–US Treasury joint statement on currency.
