The Bank of the Lao and the World Bank’s Lao PDR office held a technical seminar on developing and connecting a fast payment system with ASEAN and international networks. The initiative builds on the central bank’s recent participation in regional discussions on cross-border payment connectivity and is intended to inform future work on secure, efficient and accessible digital payments in Laos. The seminar covered policy and regulatory frameworks, system design and security, interoperability, risk management and consumer protection, with particular attention to fraud prevention. International case studies highlighted the benefits, implementation difficulties and challenges of connecting fast payment systems, providing lessons for Laos as it considers regional and international integration.
