The Central Bank of Venezuela has set new minimum interest rates for bank deposits from Sept. 15, 2026, and will require all deposits, including current accounts, to earn interest. Demand deposits will carry a minimum annual rate of 10%. The minimum annual rate for savings deposits will rise to 42% from 32%, while the rate for fixed term deposits will increase to 46% from 36%. Banks may offer rates above these floors. The changes are intended to strengthen monetary policy, encourage individuals and businesses to hold more balances in bolivars and support price stabilization.
