The Bank of Botswana issued a public notice inviting members of the public who deposited money with Dafritech (Pty) Ltd to come forward to claim their funds after a court-ordered transfer of Dafritech’s collected deposits to the central bank for distribution. The notice follows legal proceedings instituted by the Bank in 2023 on the basis that Dafritech was engaged in illegal deposit-taking contrary to Section 5 of the Banking Act (Cap. 46:04). The High Court ruled in the Bank’s favour and ordered that funds collected by Dafritech be transferred to the Bank for distribution to depositors. Claimants must provide valid proof of identity and proof of deposit, and heirs, assignees and executors or administrators must provide documentary proof of representation. Depositors who paid monies into Dafritech’s account held with First National Bank of Botswana Limited are asked to contact the Bank with effect from the date of the notice to initiate the claims process.
