The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) announced the opening of registration for the second intake of a specialised professional diploma in actuarial science, delivered by the American University in Cairo in cooperation with the Egyptian Insurance Federation under FRA sponsorship. The programme is positioned as a pathway to increase the supply of qualified actuaries for Egypt’s insurance market. Registration is open until 7 September 2025, after which applicants will undergo personal interviews before a committee chaired by FRA Chairman Mohamed Farid and including representatives from the FRA, the federation and the university; applicants will also sit placement tests covering technical subjects and English. The diploma has two tracks: a foundational actuarial science diploma aimed at graduates outside actuarial specialisms (including mathematics, physics and statistics) seeking a career transition, and a preparatory track for professionals pursuing Society of Actuaries (SOA) fellowship requirements; the first cohort saw 15 students graduate in the first quarter of 2025, with 12 completing the first track and three passing the SOA’s first exam in the second track. The programme is jointly funded by the Egyptian Insurance Federation, African Reinsurance Company and the Policyholders’ Protection Fund. In the next phase, the university’s Engineering and Science Services unit, coordinated with the federation, plans to launch additional preparatory programmes and courses to support candidates preparing for international actuarial examinations.
