The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan published consumer guidance noting that borrowers who have a dispute with a microfinance organisation over a microcredit can apply to the microfinance ombudsman. The authority describes the ombudsman as an independent, free-of-charge dispute resolution mechanism, and reiterates that the ombudsman’s decisions are binding on microfinance organisations; the institution was introduced in Kazakhstan on 21 December 2024. The guidance sets out that applications can be submitted online, by email or in person, and lists the expected supporting documentation. Required materials include a written application to the ombudsman, a borrower questionnaire, identification, the microcredit agreement and repayment schedule (and any addenda), relevant correspondence with the microfinance organisation (and replies, if available), and consent to personal data processing and obtaining a credit report.
