The National Bank of Moldova published banking statistics on new lending and interest rates for August 2025, showing new loans totalled MDL 6,480.1 million, down 7.6% from the previous month. Leu-denominated lending accounted for 73.3% of new loans (MDL 4,750.0 million) and declined 10.9% month on month. Across all new lending, the average nominal rate on leu-denominated loans increased by 0.03 percentage points to 9.38%, while the average rate on foreign-currency loans rose by 0.21 percentage points to 5.34%. Loans with maturities of two to five years were the most requested, representing 56.2% of new loans. Households contracted MDL 2,469.6 million in new loans (down 5.2%), with consumption lending making up 60.7%; leu-denominated consumption loans for two-to-five-year terms amounted to MDL 1,308.9 million. Mortgages accounted for 39.2% of new household borrowing, mainly in leu, with average rates of 11.09% on leu consumer loans (up 0.14 percentage points) and 8.16% on leu mortgages (down 0.09 percentage points). New lending to legal entities totalled MDL 3,949.5 million (down 9.0%), with non-financial commercial companies accounting for 91.1% of legal-entity borrowing and 55.5% of total new loans; average rates were 8.71% on leu loans (down 0.01 percentage points) and 5.34% on foreign-currency loans (up 0.21 percentage points).
