The Inter Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa has announced that it will hold its 2026 Regional Compliance Summit in Saly, Senegal, from 29 June to 2 July 2026. The summit will focus on integrating governance, enterprise risk management and anti-money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism and proliferation financing controls in the context of rapid technological change. It is intended to give participants a forum to discuss implementation obstacles and good practices, while also supporting cooperation between public and private sector stakeholders on emerging money laundering and terrorist financing risks. GIABA links the event’s focus to rapid digitisation, financial innovation and changing regulatory requirements, which it says have made siloed approaches to governance, enterprise risk management and AML/CFT/PF less effective in dealing with risks from digital finance, cross-border activity and more sophisticated criminal schemes. Reporting entities and regulatory authorities are encouraged to manage governance, enterprise-wide risks and AML/CFT/PF obligations in an integrated way and through the use of technology. The summit is aimed at compliance officers and senior AML/CFT/PF managers in financial institutions and designated non-financial businesses and professions, heads of national financial intelligence units, and senior officials from regulatory and supervisory authorities in the region. The annual meeting of the Compliance Officers Forum of GIABA member states will take place on the sidelines of the summit on 2 July 2026.
