The Central Bank of Morocco has signed a declaration of intent with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to launch the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative Code (WE Finance Code), aiming to improve access to finance for women-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Morocco. The initiative builds on the central bank’s work on collecting and analysing gender-disaggregated data and will provide targeted technical assistance. Working with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and other public bodies, the programme will use EBRD and IFC expertise to strengthen financial institutions’ capacity to serve women-led businesses, including by helping providers develop products and advisory services tailored to women entrepreneurs. The central bank’s commitment also marks its entry into the global community of WeFi Code signatories, with EBRD and IFC acting as implementing partners in Morocco.
