U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren requested information from Compass and Midwest Real Estate Data LLC (MRED) about their partnership to expand private listing networks through MRED’s Multiple Listing Service. Warren raised concerns that the arrangement could create a two-tier housing market, increase industry consolidation and restrict consumers’ access to property listings and market data. The letter argued that withholding listing information could impair appraisals and other mortgage processes that depend on complete data, including price histories and time on the market. It also warned that private listings could facilitate prohibited residential steering and make potential housing discrimination harder to detect. Compass and MRED were asked to provide data and responses by Aug. 21, 2026.
