The Brazil Securities Commission (CVM) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) signed a technical cooperation agreement aimed at developing the agribusiness sector by expanding the role of capital markets in agricultural financing. The authorities framed the partnership as strategic given that a relevant share of funding for the sector already comes from securities and capital markets transactions. The agreement provides for joint studies and analyses, the production and dissemination of technical knowledge, and initiatives to promote access to financing for agricultural activities, including the development of new funding instruments for agribusiness. Coordination will be led by Mapa’s Agricultural Policy Secretariat, supported by its Department of Financing Policy for the Agribusiness Sector (DEFIN/SPA/Mapa) and CVM’s Superintendence of Securitization and Agribusiness (SSE). The cooperation will last two years from its publication in the Official Gazette of the Union (Diário Oficial da União) and may be extended through an addendum.
