The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced that Jessica A. Wachter, Chief Economist and Director of the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA), will leave the agency on January 17. Under Wachter’s leadership, the 190-person DERA division delivered economic analysis supporting rulemaking and enforcement, completing more than 100 analyses for Commission proposals and adoptions, including measures on Treasury market central clearing, a shorter settlement cycle, money market fund resiliency, and cyber risk transparency. DERA also supported enforcement by helping determine ill-gotten gains and facilitate returns to investors, and advanced efforts to make data more accessible inside and outside the Commission. Wachter will return to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania as the Dr. Bruce I. Jacobs Chair of Quantitative Finance.
