The Financial Markets Standards Board has appointed Asita Anche, head of systematic market making, risk centralization and data science at Barclays, as chair of its Electronic Trading and Technology Committee. The committee brings together senior practitioners from member firms to examine how developments in electronic trading and technology affect behavior and risk in wholesale markets, and to develop standards, good practice guidance and spotlight reviews to support fair and effective trading practices. Recent work by the committee includes a spotlight review on the fast-evolving use of artificial intelligence in electronic trading systems and the risks associated with it. In announcing her appointment, Anche pointed to further work on AI, including the application of model risk management frameworks to electronic trading algorithms, and highlighted human oversight, strong controls and clear accountability as key issues as market technology evolves.
