The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) met senior executives of insurance companies in Songkhla to press for accelerated claims handling for flooding in southern provinces, with an expectation that motor claims assessed as Total Loss be paid within 3–7 days and property insurance claims be paid by the end of the year. The OIC cited preliminary notifications of around 30,000 motor claims with estimated losses of about THB 7.5bn and around 26,000 claims for property, homes and commercial buildings totalling about THB 1.8bn, noting totals could increase as surveys continue and access improves. It urged faster, fairer claims payments and asked insurers to apply consistent reference data and standards in assessment and settlement, coordinate closely with network repair garages to speed repairs, and strengthen internal guidance and customer communications on home insurance coverage terms, particularly sublimits that have been driving complaints. The OIC will continue collecting and monitoring claims data with insurers, deploy consumer protection teams from the central office to support its Region 9 (Songkhla) operations, and closely supervise insurers’ implementation of the measures.
