The Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority and eMPF Platform Company Limited have strengthened controls for detecting and deterring fraudulent applications for early withdrawal of Mandatory Provident Fund savings. Centralized administration and records on the fully operational eMPF Platform now allow suspicious applications and withdrawal histories to be identified across multiple schemes. Claimants may be required to provide original supporting documents for verification, and the withdrawal claim form has been updated accordingly. For applications based on total incapacity or terminal illness, medical certificates must now include a detailed diagnosis by a registered medical practitioner or registered Chinese medicine practitioner. The eMPF team will continue to contact the practitioner concerned to authenticate each certificate. Suspicious applications will be reported to the police. Forging or using false documents is a criminal offense that may result in imprisonment for up to 14 years upon conviction.
