The Bank for International Settlements announced that John C Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, has been appointed to a second three-year term as Chair of the BIS Markets Committee. The reappointment was announced by central bank Governors of the Global Economy Meeting at a meeting in Basel. Williams was first appointed in January 2023, succeeding Jacqueline Loh, Deputy Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The Markets Committee serves as a forum for central bank officials to discuss current market conditions, market functioning and central bank operations, and comprises senior officials from 27 central banks; it was established in 1962 and is the BIS’s longest-standing committee.
