Hong Kong's Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority published its quarterly statistical digest, reporting that Mandatory Provident Fund assets reached a record HKD 1.67 trillion at the end of June 2026, up 174% over 10 years. Equity Funds and Mixed Assets Funds represented 81% of total assets and delivered average annualized net returns since the system began in 2000 of 5.1% and 4.8%, respectively, compared with annualized inflation of 1.8%. Default Investment Strategy funds held HKD 188.6 billion across 3.73 million accounts, more than one-third of the system's over 11 million accounts. Since the strategy launched in April 2017, its Core Accumulation Fund and Age 65 Plus Fund recorded average annualized net returns of 7.3% and 2.7%, respectively. Tax-deductible voluntary contribution accounts increased 18% year on year to 104,000, while total contributions in the second quarter reached HKD 23.4 billion, more than one-quarter of which were voluntary.
