The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued an alert after Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited reported fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens, with a link to the bank’s related press release made available on the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded the public that banks do not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and do not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent websites or login screens should contact the bank using the details in its press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
