Breingan, who pleaded not guilty, is accused of using false representations and forged documents to obtain more than NZD 4.3 million in government-funded rebates and NZD 10.2 million in lending for 13 television programs produced or proposed through his Stripe Studios companies. The court dismissed Breingan's requests to withdraw his arrest warrant and attend future proceedings remotely, finding the risk that he would not voluntarily return for trial was too high. The Serious Fraud Office's extradition application remains with the United States Department of Justice, and Breingan is next due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Nov. 25, 2026.
