The Albania Financial Services Authority published its statistical bulletin on the insurance market for January–June 2025, reporting higher premium income and policy counts alongside a small decline in gross paid claims. Total gross written premiums reached ALL 12.829bn, up 7.99% versus January–June 2024, while the number of insurance contracts increased 8.06% to 755,806. Gross paid claims totalled around ALL 4.094bn, down 0.73% year on year. Non-life insurance accounted for 90.98% of total premiums, with life insurance at 8.99% and reinsurance at 0.035%. Compulsory business represented 58.71% of premiums and voluntary insurance 41.29%. In compulsory motor insurance, premiums for January–May 2025 were around ALL 7.532bn, up 13.38% year on year, with domestic MTPL premiums up 13.39% and contracts up 7.01%, Green Card premiums up 14.52% with contracts up 11.23%, and border insurance premiums up 5.50% with contracts up 3.74%. Voluntary insurance premiums were around ALL 5.297bn, up 1.15%, and voluntary contracts increased 9.88%, although voluntary non-life premiums fell 1.55%. Within property, liability and guarantee portfolios (over ALL 2.327bn of premiums), fire and other property damage represented 72.97% and general liability 18.16%, while the fire and natural forces portfolio saw premiums fall 1.06% and contract counts rise 9.35%. Accident and health premiums declined 9.04% to around ALL 0.714bn, while life premiums rose 12.33% to around ALL 1.153bn. On claims, gross paid motor claims were reported at ALL 2.640bn, up 6.48%, and motor insurance was also reported as the largest component of total paid claims at about ALL 3.127bn (76.38% of the total), with paid-claims figures including compensation fund claims reported by the Albanian Insurance Bureau; average claim amounts for selected motor products were ALL 160,000 for domestic MTPL, ALL 532,000 for Green Card and ALL 118,000 for Kasko.
