The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) has required the payment institution involved in an early-morning incident affecting users’ bus fare deductions to conduct a full investigation and submit an investigation report, and to ensure supplementary deductions are handled properly. A preliminary review by the institution indicated the incident did not involve network security issues such as unauthorized account use or system security vulnerabilities, and did not affect normal system operations. The issue was linked to the bus fare deduction process, where fares not deducted at the time of payment are processed later through a supplementary deduction mechanism. AMCM also asked the institution to contact affected users as soon as possible to explain the situation and to improve the supplementary deduction mechanism to minimize user impact.
