The Albania Financial Services Authority published insurance market statistics for January–August 2025, showing growth in premium income and policy volumes alongside a modest decline in total claims paid. Gross written premiums reached ALL 17,906 million, up 9.53% year on year, while the number of insurance contracts rose 6.12% to 1,116,204. Gross claims paid totalled around ALL 5,468 million, down 2.27% versus January–August 2024. Non-life insurance continued to dominate, accounting for 91.57% of gross written premiums, with life insurance at 8.40% and reinsurance at 0.026%; compulsory lines represented 61.84% of premiums and voluntary business 38.16%. Mandatory motor insurance premiums were around ALL 11,074 million, up 12.76%, with domestic MTPL premiums up 13.57% and contracts up 7.03%, Green Card premiums up 12.02% and contracts up 4.82%, and border insurance premiums down 1.54% with contracts down 1.92%. Voluntary insurance premiums reached around ALL 6,833 million, up 4.66% (contracts up 7.44%), while voluntary non-life premiums increased 2.44%; within property, liability and guarantee lines (over ALL 2,877 million in premiums), Fire and Other Property Damage represented 69.58% and General Liability 20.95%. Motor insurance accounted for ALL 4,195 million of claims paid (76.72% of the total), up 2.59%, and average paid motor claim amounts (in thousands of ALL) rose for domestic MTPL (162 from 156) and casco (120 from 112) but fell for Green Card (586 from 1,082); claims paid figures also include Compensation Fund claims reported by the Albanian Insurance Bureau.
