The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has revamped its Document Number Verification System, adding the subject matter of a physical letter or notice as a mandatory verification field and aligning the system with the outward number format generated by SEBI’s E-Office system. The changes build on the authentication service launched in April 2025 and have been operational since September 2026. After validating their credentials, users must enter the communication’s outward number, issuing official, date, subject matter and recipient name. A match confirms that SEBI issued a communication with those details, but does not authenticate its contents. Communications issued before September 2026 must be confirmed directly with SEBI.
