In a press release launching its 30th anniversary celebrations, the Uganda Capital Markets Authority set out a year-long programme of outreach and events and used the milestone to summarize the development of Uganda's capital markets since 1996. The release centered on the authority's record in market supervision, investor protection and innovation, including strengthened enforcement mechanisms, the Investor Compensation Fund and the regulatory sandbox. As of December 2025, the authority said Uganda's markets had raised UGX 2.3 trillion through public equity offers and UGX 290 billion through corporate bonds, while domestic market capitalization stood at UGX 15.9 trillion and collective investment schemes had mobilized UGX 5.6 trillion. It also reported 273,574 Securities Central Depository accounts and 180,452 collective investment scheme accounts, and said private markets had raised more than UGX 1.8 trillion over the last decade. Listed companies were reported to have employed more than 11,000 Ugandans in 2024, contributed UGX 2.45 trillion in taxes and paid over UGX 1.15 trillion in dividends. The anniversary programme will culminate in a flagship event on 8 October 2026 during World Investor Week in Kampala. Planned activities include nationwide investor education, a capital markets symposium, a 30-year impact report, awards, media campaigns, university engagement and regional outreach.
