The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a scam alert drawing attention to bank notices on fraudulent websites and fake internet banking login screens, as well as other phishing-related scams reported to the HKMA. The alert covers cases affecting The Bank of East Asia, Limited, Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited, Chong Hing Bank Limited, and China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email, or SMS. Individuals who provided personal information or carried out transactions in response to the scams were advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force.
