The Bank of Cape Verde and the Judicial Police signed a cooperation protocol to strengthen institutional mechanisms to combat counterfeiting and forgery of Cape Verde escudo banknotes and coins, and to set rules for the custody and management of seized values. The protocol establishes procedures for laboratory analysis and for the submission and handling of suspect notes, and defines rules and responsibilities for safeguarding values seized by judicial, police and customs authorities. It also provides for sharing information and statistics on counterfeiting, promoting technical training and knowledge exchange, and coordinating prevention, investigation and enforcement actions, with the aim of reducing the risk of counterfeit notes circulating and improving traceability and control of seized values.
