The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) ran an intensive training course in Cuba to prepare the country’s competent authorities and private-sector obliged entities for a forthcoming anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) mutual evaluation. GAFILAT highlighted that Cuba will be the first member to be assessed under its fifth round of mutual evaluations. Held from 1 to 5 September 2025, the programme was delivered with the cooperation provided by the Kingdom of Spain and forms part of a series of technical trainings offered to member countries ahead of their evaluations. The modules covered technical and institutional aspects of the AML/CFT system, with an emphasis on implementation effectiveness, and included walkthroughs of the evaluation stages and key areas that will be examined; the GAFILAT Executive Secretariat and Spanish experts participated in delivering the course.
