The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) reported on a joint Financial Action Task Force (FATF)–GAFILAT Regional Seminar for Evaluators held in Rio de Janeiro as part of the Fifth Round of Mutual Evaluations. The programme aimed to train evaluators from GAFILAT member countries to apply the FATF Fifth Round assessment methodology, covering both technical compliance with the FATF 40 Recommendations and the effectiveness of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) systems. The seminar combined a theoretical module delivered through two specialised FATF and GAFILAT e-learning courses with an in-person practical module based on simulated exercises, roundtables and debates, and included delegates from GAFILAT member countries and some observer members. Delivery involved representatives from the FATF Secretariat, the GAFILAT Executive Secretariat and a representative from Spain, with GAFILAT acknowledging support from Brazil’s National Coordination for hosting the training.
