The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public alert following a Chong Hing Bank Limited press release about a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that have been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to conduct transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who provided personal information or carried out transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen should contact Chong Hing Bank using the details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
