The National Bank of Moldova published remarks by Governor Anca Dragu from an online discussion with young people under the EYOUROPE project, focusing on the practical effects of Moldova's entry into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and the country's European Union path. She said SEPA participation has materially reduced the cost and time of euro transfers for households and businesses and shows that Moldova's legal and supervisory framework meets key EU requirements. According to Dragu, from 5 October 2025 the average fee on transfers from Moldova to SEPA countries fell by 94% to EUR 1.26 per transaction from about EUR 30, while processing times shortened from three to five days to same-day or next-day settlement. Citizens and companies saved nearly EUR 7 million in the first six months, with roughly EUR 1 million more saved each month. She added that Moldova's SEPA admission followed European Commission scrutiny of the country's payments legislation, banking supervision, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing rules.
