The National Bank of Hungary, in remarks by Governor Mihály Varga at the transfer of the central bank’s art collection in Miskolc, announced a decision to move works from its collection into museum exhibition spaces, citing a wider effort by the new management to concentrate resources on the Bank’s statutory primary objectives. The central bank’s collection comprises around 1,400 works, much of which had been kept in storage or displayed within MNB offices with limited public access. A first tranche of 101 works by 51 artists was set to arrive in Miskolc in the coming days, with the broader plan making the collection accessible in person through one museum in Budapest and 29 museums outside Budapest; works have already been loaned to museums in Budapest, Debrecen, Székesfehérvár, Karcag and Veszprém.
