The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert about a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen related to OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, referring the public to a bank press release linked from the HKMA website. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct recipients to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who provided personal information or conducted transactions via or in response to the fraudulent website or login screen were advised to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
