The Central Bank of Barbados has announced the transition of interbank transfers from the Automated Clearing House and Real-Time Processing systems to BiMPay, Barbados’ new national instant payment system. The Automated Clearing House will go offline at 2:00 p.m. on June 12, 2026, the Real-Time Processing system will become unavailable from 7:00 p.m., the formal switch to BiMPay will take place at 11:59 p.m., and interbank transfers will resume on BiMPay from 1:00 a.m. on June 13. The temporary interruption will affect interbank transfers currently processed through the existing rails, while ATM, point-of-sale and intrabank transactions will continue as normal during the migration. Customers needing to complete transactions have been told to confirm institution-specific cutoff times with their financial institution. Once live, BiMPay will provide fully interoperable real-time payments on a 24/7/365 basis, allow transfers using aliases such as mobile numbers or email addresses, and support wallet-based access, request-to-pay and QR-code payment acceptance. All six commercial banks and the three largest credit unions, Barbados Public Workers’ Co-operative Credit Union, City of Bridgetown Co-operative Credit Union and Affinity Plus Credit Union, will participate from launch.
