The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) has appointed Abdullah Haron as Deputy Secretary-General, effective 4 February 2025. Haron brings over three decades of experience across financial regulation, risk management and Islamic finance, including roles at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Central Bank of the UAE, Bank Negara Malaysia and the IFSB. At the IMF, he led technical assistance initiatives and managed follow-up implementation of Financial Sector Stability Reviews, contributing to Financial Sector Assessment Program work and Article IV surveillance, and helping shape the IMF’s approach to Islamic banking activities. Earlier, he worked in banking supervision at the Central Bank of the UAE, where he supported establishment of the Higher Shari’ah Authority and integration of Islamic finance into the national prudential framework, and previously served as IFSB Assistant Secretary-General from 2003 to 2013.
