The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo organized a joint coordination meeting with the European Union Office in Kosovo and the European Union Home Affairs Programme to discuss establishing a system for preventing and combating money counterfeiting in Kosovo. The initiative is intended to create a comprehensive national framework for prevention, detection, monitoring and enforcement, aligned with European Union and Eurosystem standards, while also strengthening institutional cooperation for the proposed new draft law on preventing and combating money counterfeiting. The meeting brought together representatives of the central bank, the Kosovo Forensic Agency, the Kosovo Police, the European Union Office in Kosovo and experts engaged under the Home Affairs Programme project. Discussions covered the project’s objectives, implementation methodology and an initial phase that will assess the legal, institutional and technical capacities of participating institutions. The project also предусматриes specialized training and the development of the Kosovo System for Monitoring Money Counterfeiting. It builds on earlier European Union technical assistance delivered through TAIEX in cooperation with the Croatian National Bank, which led to the drafting of legislation setting out the institutional framework, the responsibilities of relevant authorities and the establishment of the monitoring system.
