The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago published an update on the implications of the new national Coat of Arms for Trinidad and Tobago currency, setting out plans to introduce it on new banknotes from August 2026, starting with the Series 2026 TTD 100 denomination. It also confirmed that notes and coins bearing the former Coat of Arms will remain legal tender until 2 January 2031. The new Coat of Arms has been valid since 25 February 2025, while the former Coat of Arms remains valid until 2 January 2031 under the National Emblems of Trinidad and Tobago (Regulation) (Amendment) (Extension of Time for Use of Former Coat of Arms) Order, 2025. The Series 2026 TTD 100 note will co-circulate with the 2019 Series, with the August 2026 timing intended to allow for secure shipment, distribution for cash processing machinery adaptation and training, and Central Bank infrastructure modernisation, alongside a “Know Your Money” public education campaign. The new note will retain key design elements from the 2019 Series, including colour, size, polymer substrate, the national flag and tactile features, while adding enhanced security features, including a larger transparent window incorporating the Bird of Paradise and the new Coat of Arms; older series notes and coins are to be changed out on a phased basis. The Central Bank will continue annual “Know Your Money” campaigns and plans to publish public notices with further details closer to the release date.
