In opening remarks at an international seminar on consumer protection and financial integrity, Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta called for consumer safeguards to be embedded in digital transformation. She urged stronger real-time, risk-based coordination across sectors and borders, supported by clear responsibilities, trusted information exchange and coordinated responses to digital financial crime. The call comes as Indonesia’s digital payments expand faster than consumer understanding of financial risks. QRIS recorded 12.55 billion transactions worth about IDR 600.7 trillion in the first half of 2026, twice the volume of the same period in 2025. More than 66 million users and nearly 45 million merchants use QRIS, while the financial literacy index of 69.57% remains below the financial inclusion index of 93.61%. Bank Indonesia is addressing this gap through the Indonesia Payment Systems Blueprint 2030, its 2026 consumer protection regulation and cooperation through the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre on detecting digital crime, reporting incidents and recovering victims’ funds.
