The Central Bank of Brunei Darussalam published a joint press release announcing that the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has formally joined the Regional Payment Connectivity (RPC) initiative, increasing the number of signatory ASEAN central banks to nine. NBC’s participation was announced via the fourth supplemental pages to the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Regional Payment Connectivity during the launch of the second phase of the Malaysia–Cambodia cross-border QR payment linkage on 8 April 2025, held on the sidelines of the 12th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting in Kuala Lumpur. The RPC, established in 2022 by the central banks of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, later expanded to include Vietnam in August 2023, and Brunei Darussalam and Lao PDR in February and April 2024, respectively. The initiative aims to enable faster, cheaper, more transparent and more inclusive cross-border payments, including through QR code-based payments and fast payment modalities, to support regional economic activity such as SME market access, trade facilitation and remittance flows.
