The Central Bank of Taiwan published May 2026 data for the Taipei foreign exchange market, showing total net trading volume of USD 940.0 billion after eliminating double counting from interbank transactions. Average daily turnover was USD 47.0 billion. Interbank activity accounted for most trading, at USD 671.7 billion or 71.5% of the total. Within interbank trading, transactions with foreign banks reached USD 445.8 billion and those with domestic banks totaled USD 225.9 billion, while transactions between banks and customers were USD 268.3 billion. Trading was almost evenly split between NTD pairs and third-currency pairs, with NTD/USD the largest currency pair at USD 444.0 billion, followed by USD/RMB at USD 98.3 billion and EUR/USD at USD 86.8 billion. By instrument, foreign exchange swaps and spot transactions dominated turnover at USD 485.4 billion and USD 388.3 billion, respectively. Separately, banks also recorded USD 10.8 billion in interest rate swaps and USD 3.9 billion in interest rate options.
