The Central Bank of Nicaragua published its Remittances Report for the fourth quarter of 2024, showing remittance inflows of USD 1.4148bn in the quarter, up 12.5% from the fourth quarter of 2023. Total remittances received in 2024 reached USD 5.2431bn, a 12.5% increase (USD 583.0m) compared with 2023. The United States remained the largest source of remittances in 2024, accounting for 82.8% of the total (USD 4.3402bn, +12.8% year-on-year), followed by Costa Rica at 7.5% (USD 395.7m, +18.9%) and Spain at 5.8% (USD 303.5m, +9.8%), while inflows from Panama were broadly unchanged at USD 56.4m. Managua was the main domestic destination, receiving 25.4% of remittances, ahead of Matagalpa (10.5%), Chinandega (9.0%), León (7.4%), Nueva Segovia (7.0%) and Estelí (6.8%).
