The Central Bank of Iraq published a readout of a meeting between Governor Ali Mohsen Al-Allaq and Clemens Settner, Ambassador of the new European Union Mission to Iraq, focused on strengthening economic and banking cooperation. The governor set out the Central Bank’s banking reforms and related economic transformations. The reforms were presented as developing Iraq’s banking structure in line with international standards, improving transparency and efficiency in financial transfer systems, attracting foreign capital, and supporting a more stable and sustainable investment environment. Both sides linked financial and economic stability to an improving business climate and greater scope for EU–Iraq cooperation, while the EU Mission highlighted support for private-sector development and economic diversification, including in the context of climate change and migration challenges. The discussion concluded with an expectation of continued dialogue and joint cooperation to support economic development.
