The Central Bank of Montenegro has announced that it will grant a first savings deposit of EUR 2,000 for all babies born between 31 October and 6 November under its “Savings Week” campaign, delivered in cooperation with commercial banks and doubled from last year. Under the signed agreement, the central bank and the commercial bank where parents open the savings account will each contribute EUR 1,000, with the EUR 2,000 deposited for one year before parents can withdraw or reinvest. Parents can open a savings book at any commercial bank by 31 March 2026 by presenting both parents’ ID cards and the child’s birth certificate. The central bank also outlined associated financial literacy activities during Savings Week, including educational workshops and school lectures, and noted that nearly 2,800 children have participated to date with around EUR 1.2 million allocated overall.
