The Department of Finance Canada announced that the Government of Canada will provide CAD 10 million over five years to support the continued operations of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) office in Montréal. The funding, to be delivered by Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, is intended to maintain the ISSB’s presence in Canada and support its work with stakeholders across Canada and the Americas on the adoption of climate-related disclosure standards. The ISSB develops global sustainability-related disclosure standards, including standards intended to help firms and investors assess climate-related risks and opportunities. The Montréal office leads the ISSB’s operational presence in the Americas, and the federal contribution will be supplemented by funding from a coalition of several dozen Canadian public and private institutions. The release notes that 40 jurisdictions had adopted, or announced steps toward adopting, ISSB standards or requirements as of May 2026. The department also said the government will continue working with provinces and territories, in line with Budget 2025, to improve adoption of international climate disclosure standards across the economy, with further details to be announced in the coming months.
