The National Bank of Serbia published updated payment system statistics showing a record 82.4 million online purchases made with cards and electronic money in 2024, averaging more than 225,000 transactions per day. This was a 39.2% increase from 2023 (59.2 million) and a 288.5% increase compared with 2020 (21.2 million). In 2024, 68.5% of online purchases were made in RSD, followed by EUR (20.0%), USD (9.6%), GBP (0.3%) and CHF (0.1%), with other currencies accounting for 1.6%. The number of domestic online stores rose to 4,726 by end-2024 (+17.9% year on year), alongside growth in RSD-denominated online transactions to 56.5 million worth RSD 162.3bn (+39.6% in number and +41.9% in value). For purchases at foreign online stores, EUR transactions increased to 16.5 million worth EUR 735.2m (+56.6% in number and +40.5% in value), while USD transactions rose to 7.9 million worth USD 217.4m (+10.4% in number and +24.4% in value).
