The Bank of Cape Verde held a swearing-in ceremony for new members of its Board of Directors, Soeli Santos and Paulo Santos, overseen by Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Olavo Correia at the Ministry of Finance on 30 January 2026. The central bank also confirmed the designation of new members of its Fiscal Council. In remarks at the event, Governor Óscar Santos referenced the Bank’s progress over its 50 years, highlighting the focus on price and financial stability, rigorous prudential supervision, and measures taken during crises including the Covid-19 pandemic and episodes of extreme climate events. The finance minister stressed the need for efficient digital governance suited to a modern economy and a diaspora nation, and pointed to the implementation of simple, fast, secure and inclusive digital payment systems nationwide. The newly designated Fiscal Council comprises president Carlos de Pina and members Elisabeth Moreno and Ildo Lima.
